1200 Word Blog Post

My main influences are mostly from the action sports world, People such as Richard Forne and Leo Baron who direct and shoot action sports videos for major companies such as Red Bull and Monster Energy. The reason I look up to these two people is because the way they film is different to anyone else, they use super wide angle lens’s so they can get within a few feet from the subject and then can switch to a long artistic shot. The two combined creates a brilliant effect as you get to feel what the subjects feel when up close but then you can admire them from a distance with the help of top quality angles. When I shoot action sports videos (mainly BMX) I always try and imitate their style as I believe its the best in the action sports industry.

Directors can make or break a film, this is why my favourite director is Martin Scorsese because he always makes very good films. Scorsese has directed films such as; Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Aviator, Shutter Island and The 2013 hit film The Wolf Of Wall Street. The style of his films are all similar with his signature touch, starting the film at the middle or end and then going back to the start. Robert Di Nero and Leonardo DiCaprio are two actors that work really well with him and this shows because in the films they feature in he has won 9 world wide recognised rewards.

TV shows are everywhere, on your phone, laptop, tablet and obviously on your TV, but with so many series being made its quite hard to find a good one that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The first series I started watching was How I Met Your Mother, this is about a character called Ted Mosby looking for love and telling a long-winded story on how he met his children’s mother. This series ran for nine years and had nine seasons making a total of 204 episodes, not many series get close to that number! This series has so many plot twists and entrances and exits of characters it can be hard to follow but you will never loose interest. The end to the series was a big deal to everyone who watched from the start and I believe it ended the nine year run pretty well. Not many sitcoms cross the line into serious but How I Met Your Mother pulled it off perfect and this showed in the finale.
Another great series is American Horror Story. The reason I like this series so much is down to a number of reasons, the first being that it creeps you out and can scare you in each episode. The second is that in each season they keep the same actors but change the characters, storyline and location. I have personally never seen this done before and thought that it was a clever touch because then the storyline ends at the end of each season so it doesn't drag on. the third reason is the actors, they are mostly unknown and are such a variety, from two teenagers right up to old women in their 60’s. American Horror Story is a unique series with clever writers that can flip everything upside down in minuets.
The last in my top 3 TV shows is the series Orange Is The New Black, this series is based in a women’s prison and focuses on Piper Chapman, this light hearted series turns serious when secrets are exposed and tempers get high. The series follows a group of women that all have their own stories and personalities and we get episodes just focuses on certain characters which is a nice touch. The corruption and violence is put across well by the writer Jenji Kohan. After watching the first two seasons I'm hooked and cant wait for season 3.

My favourite production company is 20th Century Fox Television. The reason I picked this company is down to its size and how many top quality shows it produces regularly. Just some of their shows consist of; How I Met Your Mother, American Horror Story, Bones, 24, Modern Family, The Simpsons, Glee and Family Guy. These shows top lists around the world and are known for being funny, serious or gripping and thats what you want from a series. 20th Century Fox Television is one of the biggest production companies in the world and part of the Fox Entertainment group who is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

When you are at the production stage in a film or something similar your main focus is going to be on the cameras, this is because what the camera see’s the audience will see. Framing shots is something that takes lots of trial and error. When filming a scene you will have to try out different angles so you can shoot what the director wants. When framing you need to think about the rule of thirds. not so much in an action sequence but when you are shooting opening wide shots try and place something in one of the thirds. Composition and depth of field are the two other things you have to think about when shooting. you want all of your shots to have depth to them and not just feel two dimensional, this is when lighting and background come into play. if you composition you shot right, for example in an interview you will see the audiences eyes instantly be drawn to the person your interviewing. the best way to film an interview is to have the subject against a dull background so the interest stays on the subject and the audiences eyes don't wander. all three of these put together in photography will help you have an advanced understanding when shooting video.

When designing my blog I had a few important things in mind such as usability, colours, simplistic, professional and something that I would show my future employer.
First of all I needed a simple title, seeing as this needs to be professional I chose to use my name. Ive made my blog black and white because it looks cleaner and less cluttered, however any of my posts/pictures can be in colour to grab the readers attention. When  look at other peoples blogs they don't seem to have any links to their social media, I decided to add my Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts so the person reading can click them to get to know me better. The most important aspect to take into consideration was ‘would I show this to my future employer’ my answer to this is a yes because I feel that it promotes me and my work in a positive and professional way.

Experience

At college me and a group of 14 others ran a student radio show for three days that was broadcasted live throughout the whole of East Sussex. you can find out more about this by searching Eastbourne Youth Radio online.
Also at college I filmed a short drama that was screened in a cinema in front of a big audience.

College also provided the resources for my class to produce a 49 page magazine. We had to raise the money to print 2500 copies through sponsorships, write the articles and design the pages in a professional way, whilst meeting a client brief.
